CAMPI Strengthens Road and Vehicle Safety Mission with E-Commerce Memorandum of Understanding
December 12, 2025
The Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI) has officially signed the E-Commerce Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with leading e-commerce platforms, in a ceremony witnessed by the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL). The partnership reinforces CAMPI’s commitment to protecting consumers from counterfeit automotive products and promoting vehicle safety standards nationwide.
Present during the signing ceremony were CAMPI President Atty. Rommel R. Gutierrez and IPOPHL Acting Director General Nathaniel S. Arevalo, together with representatives from major online platforms including Shopee, Lazada, Zalora, and TikTok Shop, all of whom expressed strong support for the collaboration.
Atty. Gutierrez emphasized that the signing of the MOU comes at a meaningful time for the industry as CAMPI marks its 30th anniversary this year.
“This collaboration could not have come at a more fitting time,” Gutierrez said. “As we mark three decades of service to the motoring public, CAMPI continues to strengthen its mission to raise awareness and combat counterfeit products that compromise the safety of Filipino consumers.”
He further explained that the initiative aligns with CAMPI’s Road and Vehicle Safety Pillar, underscoring the organization’s long-standing commitment to advancing industry-wide safety standards and ensuring that only genuine, high-quality automotive parts are available in the market.
Road safety and vehicle safety are closely interconnected. While CAMPI continues to advocate for safer roads, it is also addressing the growing challenge of counterfeit automotive parts that pose serious risks to motorists.
Effective since 2021, the E-Commerce MOU establishes a Code of Practice or Conduct aimed at curbing the proliferation of counterfeit and pirated goods sold online. Facilitated by IPOPHL, the agreement strengthens collaboration among signatories and implements an efficient Notice and Takedown (NTD) mechanism initiated by brand owners.
According to data from the Land Transportation Office (LTO), the Philippine vehicle fleet reached approximately 5.8 million units in 2024, creating a substantial aftermarket demand where counterfeit automotive parts continue to circulate. Through this MOU, CAMPI aims to promote a strong intellectual property (IP) culture within the automotive industry and support its members in strengthening their IP protection strategies.
Participating e-commerce platforms reaffirmed their commitment to the initiative, assuring that their platforms maintain effective and transparent NTD systems that respond promptly to verified reports. These measures will help curb the sale of counterfeit goods and enhance consumer trust in legitimate online automotive transactions.
IPOPHL Acting Director General Nathaniel S. Arevalo commended CAMPI’s participation in the initiative.
“We are pleased to witness CAMPI’s onboarding into this E-Commerce MOU. Choosing authentic spare parts is not only a matter of compliance—it is a commitment to safety, quality, and accountability for consumers,” Arevalo said. “By doing so, we uphold the intellectual property rights of innovators and creators in the Philippine automotive industry, contributing to their economic growth and encouraging continued innovation.”
As CAMPI celebrates its 30th year, this milestone underscores the organization’s renewed Mission and Vision to lead the local automotive industry toward greater innovation, safety, and consumer protection. With expanding membership and stronger collaboration with government and private partners, CAMPI reaffirms its commitment to responsible manufacturing, fair trade practices, and the highest standards of vehicle safety in the years ahead.
