Operation Better World

Operation Better World is Ford’s global umbrella program that enables the company and its employees’ involvement in community development. Since 2013, Operation Better World has responded to the healthcare needs of Gawad Kalinga (GK) communities.

With the resumption of on-ground programs after COVID-19 lockdowns, Ford Philippines held 6 medical and dental missions in 2022-2023 in Valenzuela City, Capiz, Surigao, Agusan del Norte, North Cotabato and Rizal, benefitting about 6,300 adults and children.  In 2024, 6 medical missions will be organized in underserved areas in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

Since 2015, Ford has supported 21 Healthcare Capacity Training sessions to equip over 560 healthcare volunteers in the communities with knowledge on basic health, maternal & childcare, first aid and disaster response management supported by health kits and medical devices.  Gawad Kalinga communities in Quezon Province, Bohol and Bukidnon will be recipients of the training program in 2024.

Scholars of Sustenance (SOS) is the first food rescue foundation in Thailand and the Philippines that ensures more access to healthy meals while also lessening the environmental impact of food waste.

In the Philippines, Ford Fund has transformed SOS Philippines’ vision into reality by establishing a fully operational kitchen and supported its operations to rescue surplus food.  Ford Philippines donated a Ford Transit van that boost mobilization of operations and saw an increase of 250,000 meals served.

Road Safety, Education and Environment

The Ford Driving Skills for Life (DSFL) program is one of Ford’s flagship corporate social responsibility programs, bringing to life its advocacy on road and vehicle safety. In 2023, the DSFL marked its 15th year in the Philippines and carried the theme, ‘Driving Smart. Protecting Lives. Building Safer Roads’.  New driving modules for this year included driving on different terrains, driving at night, during floods and rainy weather, and road sharing.

This program fosters inclusion and diversity and reduces barriers for students pursuing careers in automotive services and technology by helping cover tuition fees and costs of attendance.

Since 2016, Ford’s Auto Mechanic Scholarship Program has supported 170 underprivileged students who completed the 15-month course at the Don Bosco Technical Institute-Technical Vocational and Education Center (TVET) with over 70% of the graduates employed by Ford dealers as well as competing brands.  Thirty-three scholars are expected to graduate in 2024.

Ford Philippines partnered with its Ford dealer network, Motolite Ramcar Battery and Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) to advocate the proper disposal and legitimate recycling of used lead acid batteries (ULABs). Motolite donates to PBSP an amount for every battery collected from dealers  and the fund will be used for the rehabilitation of watersheds.

The fund, which is augmented by a $50,000 grant from Ford Fund, was used for tree planting of 12 hectares each in Marikina and Buhisan watersheds.

Global Caring Month

September is Ford Global Caring Month and thousands of Ford employees around the world are venturing out into their communities to help make people’s lives better.  Global Caring Month is the signature annual event of the Ford Volunteer Corps and is participated by employees and dealer partners alike.  In 2023, over 1,260 volunteer hours were rendered by Ford and dealer employees.

In 2022, Ford employees returned to in-person volunteer activities and packed fresh vegetables and rice in woven baskets that were distributed to 600 families of GK communities in Caloocan City and Trece Martirez, Cavite.  This was sustained in 2023, with the program benefitting 800 families in Mandaluyong, Paranaque and Lumbuan, Iloilo. The fresh produce were bought from farmers under BayanAnihan, a Gawad Kalinga platform connecting family farms to market through transformative partnerships. In 2024, Ford will distribute to 800 families in Metro Manila and Tacloban, Leyte.

Ford Fund has also supported the AMCHAM Foundation by providing basic needs of the elderly and abandoned in two institutions, Mary Mother of Mercy Home of the Elderly & Abandoned and the Anawin Lay Missions Foundation.
