Auto Sales Increases 16.2% for September

October 12, 2016

The Philippine Automotive Industry sets another remarkable record for September sales. In a report issued by Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (“CAMPI”) and Truck Manufacturers Association (“TMA”), there were 31,451 units sold during September with 16.2 percent increase coming from 27,069 units sold in the same month in 2015.

Passenger Car (“PC”) and Commercial Vehicle (“CV”) segments both increased sales performances. PC segment reached 12,110 units, 13.1 percent higher versus September 2015 and 8.7 percent higher versus previous month. The CV segment growth was 18.2 percent compared to the same month last year but declined 9.4 percent versus last month.

Most categories within the CV segment continued to grow for September. Category I (AUVs) sales reached 5,954 units with a rise of 34.9 percent from the 4,415 units record last year. Category III (LCV) sales registered 754 units sold, a significant 74.1 percent surge from 433 units sold in same month in 2015. Category V (Heavy Duty Trucks and Buses) was the only one among the five CV subcategories that decline for September with 129 units sold or a 2.3 percent drop versus 132 units in September 2015.

“With continued strong market demand and enough supply and new model introductions during the 6th Philippine International Motor Show in September, third quarter sales remained strong. We expect sustained growth as we enter the fourth quarter,” according to Atty. Rommel Gutierrez, President of CAMPI.

With year-to-date automotive sales reaching 261,370 units, Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation remains at the top with 43.78% market share. They are followed by Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation with 17.34% share. Sitting at third place is Ford Motor Company Philippines, Inc. with 9.56% market share. At fourth spot is Isuzu Philippines Corporation with 7.47%; followed by Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. with 6.51% market share.
