The Philippine automotive industry has again surpassed its highest monthly and first semester sales record. Based on a joint report of the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (“CAMPI”) and Truck Manufacturers Association (“TMA”) June auto sales reached 32,993 units which is 36% increase versus 24,185 of the same month last year. Last month’s sale is contributed to 27% growth for first semester total sale of 167,481 units.

Both Passenger Cars (“PC”) and Commercial Vehicle (“CV”) segments rose compared with June 2015 sales. Passenger Cars sales achieved 11,951 units with a growth of 21.5 percent. For year-to-date comparison, PC segment has reached 62,560 units and grew 18.5 percent over the first half of 2015.

Commercial vehicles boosted with 46.7 percent growth with 21,042 units sold last month. This category has reached 104,921 units as of June which is a 33.3 percent gain the same period last year. All segments within CV performed well but it was Category 5 (Heavy Duty Trucks and Buses) that grew remarkably with 91.1 percent with 193 units sold. Our ongoing infrastructure developments led to the continuous demand for such heavy-duty vehicles.
