Auto Industry sales down 11.2% in January 2022

February 3, 2022

A joint report by the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI) and Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA) shows total vehicle sales for January 2022 reached 20,765 units, equivalent to 11.2% decrease compared with 23,380 units recorded in the same period a year ago.

A month-on-month double-digit decline of 25.4% was also recorded from the 27,846 units sold in December 2021 – the highest monthly sales since the advent of the pandemic.

CAMPI President Atty. Rommel Gutierrez said that the “industry anticipated a bleak growth last month where historically every first month of year is indeed sluggish coming from higher growth sales performance recorded every holiday season. Unfortunately, we cannot dismiss the impact of tighter restrictions reimposed in January as new cases of COVID-19 rose particularly in NCR and nearby provinces, resulting in a lukewarm reception for big-ticket items spending.”

“The pandemic is something that the industry will have to continue dealing with during these uncertain times just like other industries even with the rollout of the vaccines. Hopefully, the COVID-19 will be contained in the foreseeable future so we can all get back on track to recovery”, Atty Gutierrez added.
