- Universal Motors Corporation
|
| |
Universal Motors Corporation (UMC), the country's largest and oldest 100% Filipino-owned assembler and distributor of Nissan Light Commercial Vehicles, has proven in its 53 solid years of experience in the local automotive industry that resiliency is an essential key to success. UMC's humble beginnings began in April 1954. With a paid up capital of P125,000 the Lee brothers, together with its partners, formed UMC. The company pioneered in the assembly and distribution of automobiles, starting with Mercedes Benz October 1955. In 1971, UMC entered into a distributorship agreement with Nissan and by the following year, assembled and distributed Datsun (former name of Nissan) passenger cars. In the early 1980's UMC concentrated on the production of Nissan light commercial vehicles (LCV's). This was a major paradigm shift for the company since LCV's at that time did not enjoy the kind of popularity that would encourage anyone to venture boldly into assembly operations. UMC took on the challenge, ventured forth and from then on been known in the market and industry for its commitment to provide customers with products of exceptional quality and reliability.
Today, the vehicles the company sells forms an integral part of the daily lives of its buyers, both business and personal.
Vehicles like the reliable entrepreneur's choice and business partner, the Nissan Urvan. Through the pioneering and industry's first Entrepreneurship-Corporate Social Responsibility program called the "Ur Van, Ur Business" program, buyers can start a business using the Nissan Urvan as a self-liquidating, mobile business venture that is easy to start and a relatively minimal initial capital outlay. At the same time, buyers help fellow underprivileged Filipinos become entrepreneurs themselves through UMC's donation to a charitable foundation's micro-finance arm. The unlimited business possibilities have made the Urvan the business partner of choice by entrepreneurs.
The Nissan Frontier pick-up truck for its part, remains the only brand known for being the #1 selling pick-up truck in the market for four consecutive years soon after its launch. UMC was the first to offer a pick-up with an automatic transmission and driver-side airbag for added safety. Today, it remains a contender especially in the 2WD segment backed by the Nissan DNA known for it's long term durability. While the luxury full-size SUV, the Nissan Patrol, with its newly launched Nissan Patrol Super Safari model, continues to be the vehicle of choice for the CEO, heads of state, the movers and shakers of business and society. It continues to enjoy a premium position in the large SUV segment as the vehicle of choice for high-end markets.
From top management down to its line workers, UMC's goal is to provide increasingly better products and service that fit the unique demands and needs of its customers. The company attributes its continued success to God's blessing and dedicated employees, many of whom have already served the company for more than a decade. |
